Suitable for all levels, it involves hands-on listening, learning principles of Environmental Composition and Sound Object identification, and collecting sounds for analysis.

Speculative Fiction, Technology and Society

The session begins with a discussion on technology and society, featuring science fiction books by authors such as Octavia Butler and Ursula K. Le Guin. It is followed by speculative exercises based on everyday objects.

Alternative Perceptions of the Natural and Technological World

This intensive image production session aims to explore and experiment with other perceptions of the natural and technological world, challenging the linear Western representation of life and material cycles. The goal is to expose/highlight the complexity of the symbiotic relationships and associations that sustain the living and resilient ecosystems.

Iron Gall Ink: First Make, Then Draw

Iron Gall ink played a central role in the development of the European culture as it has been one of the main materials for writing and drawing for centuries. In this workshop, we will share with participants the main processes for its production from oak galls and we will practise its use by drawing from nature.

This guided tour will explore the essence of the elements that shape the built environment, from their composition and industry to their solidity and broader impact on the planet.

Cinema as a Sensitive Body – Non-Toxic Analog Processes

In an exercise of sharing and exploring the vast possibilities of experimental cinema, this practical activity will delve into creating motion pictures without the use of a camera. We will use organic materials (flowers, leaves, fruits) which – through non-toxic processes – impress their form onto the sensitive 16mm film.

Following the screening of the Brazilian feature film Os Primeiros Soldados (2021), directed by Rodrigo de Oliveira, which focuses on the early days of the AIDS epidemic in Brazil, the workshop will explore the relationships between queer, nature, and history – or queer, space and time – in cinema.

An exploratory session on the relationship between natural and digital soundscapes in a performance and sound installation format, blending field recordings with synthesized sounds, playing with the similarities and differences between them.

Loop ~ Mineral Sounds: Experiences with Amplified Materials

An experimental performance-exercise. Sharing of sound-art creation processes using ceramics and other amplified materials. This performative session includes participatory listening and collective interaction to induce mental states of relaxation and observation through meditative exercises.
